Updating is safe if you have a9lh/b9s+CFW like Luma. System transfers work fine for systems with CFW, and it does not affect whether or not it has it. You can install CFW on <=11.3 systems without a hardmod, DSiWare or another CFW system. You CAN install CFW on 11.5 systems, with a hardmod or through DSiWare transferring from another system with CFW.
